Activism 101: Sharing Your Personal Story

Have you ever been moved by a story? Stories are fun, engaging, relatable, emotional, and relevant. They clarify who we are, what we stand for, and provide a vehicle for sharing our values with others. We all like to listen to stories - either by reading a book, watching a well-crafted TV series, going to a movie, or hearing a lecture.

We all have a personal story of what is important to us, what we want to change, and why we want to act. And those stories not only compel us to act, but they also move others to action. Creating and sharing your personal story is one of the ways you can move others to act around issues you care about. It is one of the building blocks that we can use to talk to our friends, families, neighbors, write a letter to Congress or the editor of our local paper. We can use the story when we speak at City Council Meetings, or in our local advocacy group. And it is a story we can draw from when we talk to voters or canvass people at their doors.

Come to this interactive story where we will each craft a short personal story that we can use in all kinds of settings and move ourselves and others to action. Join us!
